We have scoured the local area for some reason Hidden Somerset gems, many from new or very small producers, all of whom are doing a great job making and creating great cider, so we have pulled 6 of the best together for your February case - we are sure even the most committed cider fanatics will have at least 2 brand new to them here! So here we go, each case contains:
Brays Medium Sparkling 5%
Made by Adam Bray in the Taunton Vale, a bright, clear and golden cider with a pleasant apple aroma, that is has hints of oak and caramel to taste, the tannic bittersweet varieties subtly come through and the gentle sparkling sensation finishes the cider beautifully to give an all round, well-balanced, medium cider that is easy to drink and very enjoyable.
"The Pennard Weasel" Medium Dry Sparkling 4.2%
Made in sight of Glastonbury Tour, and as the label, says from apples "grown in rural orchards enchanted by Festival vibrations", so close is it to the Glastonbury Festival site. Made primarily for their gorgeous wedding venue, little ever gets sold outside, so we are very pleased to offer this terrific Somerset hidden gem.
Wady's "Orchard Rambler" Medium Sweet 4.9%
A great local secret, now we have let it out of the bag! Chris has planted new orchards on the Somerset Levels, and blends classic bittersweet Dabinett with newer cider varieties, as well as a sharp variety like Bramley, and the sweet eater Red Falstaff, all from young trees full of flavour, which impart a distinctive full bodied, yet crisp and sweeter flavour.
Ganley & Naish "Hell & High Water" Browns SV Medium Dry 5.5% 440ml cans
Andy won the 2023 Breakthrough Cider Maker Award run by Sandford Orchards, and has fully embraced a modern twist on classic Browns cider. Supplied in funky 440ml cans with great artwork, Hell & High Water is an absolute belter of a full juice cider from their own old orchards South of Bristol. Keep up the great work Andy!
Impens 8 Medium Sparkling 6%
Jonathan has been making great cider from his old standard orchards near North Petherton for many years, and is a great "everyday" cider for all occasions. Everything you want in a Somerset cider - tannins, appley hit, and a 6% ABV, what a cracker this is.
Moons Cider "Orchard Moon" Medium Dry 6.5%
Tom is a bit of a perfectionist really, and no wonder he won the 2022 Breakthrough Cider maker Award from Sandford. He is regularly Champion Cider maker at big local shows, and his excellent cider is grown and made in the shadow of Glastonbury Tor.
This is a collaboration cider with Sandford, using Tom's Yarlington Mill and Browns from Devon. The result is a luscious and juicy cider with deep aromatics and complexity from Yarlington Mill, complemented by the crisp, green apple zing of Brown’s. A rewarding, full-bodied cider with a light sparkle and medium dry finish
